In this post we want to talk about jam, jelly and apple powder. All three are made from fruits and are usually used to supplement foods or make some desserts. Sometimes people get confused between jelly and jam, although they are very similar is not the same, but they have some characteristics that make them different.

The jam has been known since ancient Rome and several attribute the invention of jam to the Romans. On the other hand, the invention of jelly is attributed to the Arabs.

The jelly is made from the juice of the fruits; it can contain fruit pulp and includes pectin and it is mixed with sugar. The jelly is less thick than jam and is light and bright and contains no pieces of fruit. The most common flavors are strawberry, cherry and grape. One of the uses of apple powder is to make jelly, due to the high pectin content that you have to include in these recipes.

Grape Jelly

Green grapes without seeds, 1 cup of sugar, half a lemon, a teaspoon of apple powder. You must wash and listen to the grapes, in a pot place the grapes with the lemon juice, let them cook at low temperature for 20 minutes. Add the powder and sugar, let it cook for 10 more minutes and then pass it through a colander and let it cool.

The jam is similar to jelly, but the difference is that it contains small pieces of fruit, sugar is added, with pectin and it is boiled. When the sugar is heated and the fruit causes a reaction, the mixture becomes firmer when it is cooled. Jams contain more fruit than jellies and that’s why they are darker and do not shine as much as jelly. In the jams you can also include apple powder so that more pectin is released and gives a better consistency to your jam.

Orange marmalade

You will need 3 oranges, 2 cups of sugar, apple powder. The first steps we have to do are washing and peel the oranges; cut the skin into strips and add it to the pulp. Place the oranges in a pot and let them cook in low temperature for 40 minutes; While it is cooking add the apple powder until it has the desired consistency. Finally, add the sugar and continue cooking for 10 minutes; when the jam is no longer so liquid, turn off and let it cool so that it sets and has the desired consistency.

Apple powder is produced from fresh apples to which the juice has been removed through a natural pressing process that retains pectin and flavor. The remaining apple solids are then dried and ground to achieve a uniform particle size. Apple powder increases the fruit base for natural fruit products because it complements the taste of apple and other fruit flavors.

This powder is a versatile ingredient in many applications. It is often used to supplement protein drinks. In addition, it can be used to replace fat in sausages or hamburgers. As well as thicken various sauces, soups or drinks and of course also serves for mermeladas y jaleas. As you can see, this product has thousands of uses in the food industry.
